About ten years ago I encountered a bottle of Viader 1995 in London, knew nothing about it but, being partial to Joseph Phelps and Stags Leap, I bought it all the same. Last night, an old family friend who was visiting the UK from the Cape in South Africa came over for supper. I asked him to choose from my small collection. I had cooked pasta with a rich mushroom, porcini and mascarpone source. He chose your wine (which went well with the food). It was an extraordinary bottle of wine and we both marveled at it long after the meal was finished. It kept changing with each refill, beginning with lovely red berries and mint on opening and ending with a range of darker mineral tones by the end. It was vigorous on the palate, with ample structure and had a long, full finish. We both placed it in our top twenty bottles drunk. Thank you for a memorable occasion. Hello all, the tasting yesterday went awesome. I think it was unanimous that there was nothing less than yummy wines and perhaps 2 on the brink of wicked yummy! Here's a quick review of the wines and estimated pricing including 7% sales tax: The complexity of the Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc was wonderful and was clearly a special treat. Although it is unavailable for sale, it can be found in some of Manhattan's finest restaurants...some even serving it by the glass! As one would safely assume, VIADER doesn't mess around when it comes to making wine. many of the guests yesterday were skeptical about a single varietal Cab Franc...especially when poured side by side with a very nice Amarone! Well...much to the surprise of about 90% of the guests, the VIADER DARE Cab Franc was awesome and only got better with each sip delivering gobs of fruit with prominent blueberry. The only complaints I received was that it ran out! Of course the other wines were all delicious and the Rosenblum, at that price point is a no-brainer! Steven M. A few years ago on a business trip to New York City we stumbled across a rare gem of yours- a bottle of your 1989. When we'd mentioned that to you on our last trip to your vineyard you seemed surprised by the fact that it was still in circulation. We picked it up at Park Avenue Liquor Shop ( a unique littel shop in the middle of the city). As we prepare our collection for our upcoming move to California we decided that we shouldn't take a chance on moving this bottle. Hence we were "forced" to drink it last night. This morning we felt compelled to write to you to let you know that it was absolutely amazing and that we thoroughly enjoyed it. Since we typically drink your wines much younger it was a different experience for us. As you can imagine it was very soft and subtle both in taste and in aroma yet very full flavoured with consistency from Ms. Viader, Just a little note to thank you for your kindness and graciousness.
