2005 VIADER

69% CABERNET SAUVIGNON 31% CABERNET FRANC

VIADER captures an ideal balance between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon adds complexity and character as well as the backbone structure for long aging potential while Cabernet Franc contributes to the early approachability, elegant structure and violet-like aromatics. VIADER is made from the finest selection of our hillside estate on Howell Mountain.

Winemaker Notes:

Our 2005 VIADER reaches a more sophisticated, almost "aristocratic" elegance, showing initial notes of mocha and tobacco leaf supporting the ripe black fruit. Enticingly sweet brown sugar notes on the nose complement currant and mineral undertones typical of wines coming from Howell Mountain's volcanic soil. On the palate this wine shows refined, supple tannins with a persistent cashmere finish.

2005 Growing Season:

Winter rains took pause for a dry, mild March then began again with record-setting precipitation late into the growing season delaying bloom and set. The summer months were cool and pleasant with few heat spikes. Fog and cool temperatures were a concern heading into September as sugar levels were yet to rise. Warm, nearly perfect conditions arrived with an Indian Summer making for a later than average harvest, allowing our fruit extended hang-time and ultimately excellent sugar development and balanced acids with an average crop load of what could be a signature vintage from Napa Valley.

Our philosophy is to allow the grapes and terroir (all factors that influence the character of grapes grown in a specific microclimate) to express naturally in every glass of VIADER.
